My impression is it's great for an internet cafe because you can now have a back-up ISP that automatically kicks in when the other is down. And if you do a speedtest, you are only testing the bandwidth of one ISP. At best, you can get about 70% of the combined BW. If I assign 3G to the first logical WAN port, then I have to plug the DSL modem to the 2nd WAN ethernet port.ĭual wan does not fully combine the bandwidth of both ISPs. I can combine fast downloads from Globe with fast seeding on Smart.īTW, even if you use a 3G modem, you still lose one LAN port for the 2nd WAN. On torrents, dowanload speeds are crappy on Smart but uploads are great. For example, I route to one WAN port and IPTracker to the other WAN port to verify my IP address. You can route destinations to a specific WAN port. You can assign QOS independently on each WAN connection, both upload and download. The dual-WAN has plenty of neat features. Sometimes it has difficulty dialing into SmartBro. It is important because I often command the router to disconnect/reconnect until I get a non-proxied IP address. It displays both are disconnected even if in reality only one is disconnected. It is easily confused when one is disconnected. The PPPoE/3G dialer is buggy on the dual-WAN. Modem detection relies on the modeswitch program for linux. The correct APN setting is also inputted there. The second WAN port in the basic settings page is set to 3G modem. Simultaneously, a Huawei E176 3G modem is plugged to the USB port. The WAN port of the CW-5354U is set to PPPoE for Globe. The WAN port is connected to my Globe DSL modem. This allows you to download torrents from any device in the house, directly to the router’s attached usb devices.Right now I have got it setup on the CDR-King CW-5354U. The final piece of the jigsaw is the included Torrent down loader on the router, using the Transmission software. They all play without buffering although they are directly playing off the tv. mkv upstairs while also streaming another file to my Samsung Pad. mkv downstairs at the same time as playing a HD. I have so far tested the system playing a HD. You can also access the files from any computer on the wifi network (so make sure you put a safe password on it otherwise your neighbours will be enjoying access) again via network places. To make play files easy on other android devices, I install File Manager from the Play store which also supports network places. You can then navigate and play any file you want. Clicking on this will then show you your hard drive (or drives in my case). This will then scan your network and find your router (name will be whatever you set in the file sharing menu). On the left side you can click on Network Places. Once connected to the wifi, your ‘Network Places’ will be in white. Remember, the router is only meant to have one, so try not to plug in anything that is not externally powered otherwise you may over heat your router! In my case, I went one step further and added a USB hub ( again from CDRKing) which gave me 7 USB ports. – USB NAS (Network attached storage) supportįirstly, the USB NAS support allows you to plug a usb device into the router. Like those, you can plug in your internet connection (in my case from a Globe wimax router) and your good to go. The CW-5358u is a tomato flashed router, which means it has a lot more options than a usual wifi router. This isn’t actually an issue as the Android TV boxes are not Wifi ‘N’ enabled, so you can’t get more than 54mbps anyway, although if you want to stream to other media devices such as Ipad’s or phones you might want the faster router, especially if you want to stream. The CW-5358u took some finding – I eventually found in Los Banos after sending an email to the CDRking stock finder email address There is also the CW-5354U model which does the same thing, albeit with a max speed of 54mbps. The next purchase therefore is this router from CDRKing. However, that’s all well and good, but if you have multiple drives and multiple tv’s it is a pain to move wires around and move hard drives around the house… These boxes are great as you can plug in an external hard-drive up to 500gb in size (it will not recognize a hard-drive bigger than 500gb, and the drive must be externally powered). This includes access to the Google Play store, so just about any app under the sun is available to install, however, for what I am using it for there is actually no need to install anything other than MXplayer to give you all available codecs for playing video files. These connect to your TV via a HDMI cable and give you a full Android interface. Android Tv box from CDRKing sitting on top of the Skycable HD box
